House board began discussing the idea of starting a thrift shop in order to make good use of the large amount of donations being given to the shelter. In the spring of 2005, after many, many meetings, a small committee began to search seriously for a location. Finally, by November negotiations began on a lease for the space on Bradford Ave., and finally possession was taken February 1, 2006. Charity’s Closet is a beautiful thrift shop located at 134 North Bradford Ave in Placentia. It operates primarily for the purpose of raising funds for HIS House, the Homeless Intervention Shelter next door to the church. However, after three years of operation, the shop has become much more than a store to buy beautiful, gently used products; it now has become a warm, caring gathering place for both volunteers as well as customers. It’s a place where people just like to be.
